On Tuesday, India successfully test-fired its short-range nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni-I. The missile has a strike range of over 700 km and the test was done off the Odisha coast, say defence sources. They further added that the indigenously developed surface-to-surface missile was launched as a part of periodic training activity by the Strategic Forces Command or SFC of the Indian Army. The test was a "complete success", as described by them and reportedly all the mission objectives were met during the trial.

"The trajectory of the trial was tracked by a battery of sophisticated radars, telemetry observation stations, electro-optic instruments and naval ships right from its launch till the missile hit the target area with pinpoint accuracy," sources confirmed. They further added that not only has the missile been included in the Indian armed forces, it has also proved its worth in terms of performance, range, accuracy and lethality. The missile weighs around 12 tonnes and can carry upto 1,000 kg. It is also capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
