Is it alright to have sex during the coronavirus outbreak? Find out what experts have to say!

The coronavirus has stirred up a storm all across the globe with so many fatalities and is still spreading like wildfire. Thankfully, the governments of various countries have identified the threats it poses and have thus ordered lockdowns and asked people to self-quarantine. But while people are cooped up at home, we're sure a lot of couples and singles out there are wondering what this means for their sex life. And who can blame them? After all, being intimate can truly help relieve stress. This is why experts have now opened up about some basic questions people might have regarding sex during these trying times.

Talking about whether or not the virus is transmissible via sex, experts said that there hasn't been any indication that the virus can be transferred via vaginal or anal sex. However, saliva contact may transfer the virus so this means that kissing sort of becomes off-limits. They also warned against oral sex as, "There is also evidence of oral-faecal transmission of the Covid-19 and that implies that analingus may represent a risk for infection."

So then should you have sex or not? Experts say that if you've been with a regular partner for long and are aware of their sexual history (no STDs and likes of that) it's actually perfectly alright to engage in sexual intercourse with them. Like we mentioned earlier, it might help relieve stress and anxiety during this time. But if your partner has been exposed to someone with the virus then it is best to avoid any sexual activity for now.

Whereas for people who actively seek out new partners, this is NOT the time to be engaging in any form of contact let alone sexual activities with anyone. Experts say you could always opt for other options like sexting, video calls or even masturbation. Which also brings into question whether it's safe to use sex toys at this time. Experts say that it is as long as you clean them with soap and water before and after you use them.

The bottom line is that if you and your partner live together and are clean and healthy (not in contact with covid-19 patients, not having any symptoms), you may participate in sexual activities. And if you're someone who's single but is looking for a new partner then the best way to be able to get to them is by ensuring that everyone stays quarantined. The more people follow the rules, the faster we'll be able to get rid of the virus. Until then, find a hobby, do some exercise, eat healthy, sleep well and remember to stay positive.
