If you didn't know this already, nail care is very important in order to keep yourself fit and fine. Since they're very delicate, they're exposed to a lot of bacteria and germs and so, keeping them neat and clean only makes more sense. While some like to visit a salon to perfect our nails, some might like to do it their own way at home. Either ways, there are chances you're making some manicure mistakes which will ultimately ruin your nails. This is why, you should read the following and avoid them.

- Not sanitizing your manicure tools is the worst way to even begin with. You should dip your tools in a mixture of hot water and a few drops of Dettol to properly sanitize them. "Hygiene of the tools used during the service is one of the most important points that women tend to overlook when opting for a manicure. The manicure tools need to be sterilised before usage, as many times, tools which are used for the masses are not sterilised properly leading to infections passed by previous customers," says Dhanani, founder of The White Door salon, Mumbai

- Not cutting the cuticles correctly is a painful way to do your nails. You tend to go with the flow and cut excessive cuticles which in turn give you way nails. Says Dr Sneha, “Contrary to popular belief cutting your cuticles is a major health risk, due to the fact that the exposed cuts on your fingers could potentially get infected.”

- Not using top and base coat on your nails might leave them stained. And if you notice stained nails after removing your nail paint, you should know you're doing it wrong. National Creative Director, Skin, Lakme Salon, Dr. Sneha Prabhudabholkar says, “One of the most commonly made mistakes is not using a base coat before we polish them; this in the long run causes yellowing of the nails which makes them weak." She also mentioned, "Using pure acetone to take off nail polish makes your nails dry and eventually damaged."

- A lot of buffing of nails can give you damaged nails. Dr Sneha says, “Severe buffing of the nail can cause it to become extremely thin and very prone to breaking. Even filing your nails with an emery board back and forth constantly will result in the nail breaking.”

These are the basic manicure mistakes that every woman tends to make and the ones that can be easily taken care of and avoided. So, do the needful for your nails. They deserve it.
