Memes have become something of a 'norm' with millennials today. However, we have recently got to know that memes could be contributing to the obesity crisis! In September, the European Parliament passed a copyright law that some consider a "meme ban." Similarly, Sweden's advertising watchdog has termed the famous "distracted boyfriend" meme as sexist. Did you know that now several countries are trying to curb the free flow of memes? Well, it's true.

Academics state now that memes could greatly be contributing to the obesity crisis especially in the United Kingdom. According to a report by CNN, researchers from Loughborough University, in a letter to a British parliamentary committee, claimed that online memes convey harmful health-related messages and take unhealthy eating habits very lightly. "A substantial number of individuals on Twitter share health-related Internet memes, with both positive and negative messages and many even contain inappropriate material," the letter read.
