The havoc created by the coronavirus has shaken the world. Currently, the number of COVID-19 positive cases climbed to 649 alone in India on Thursday. According to the Health Ministry, the death toll from the nobel coronavirus has risen to 13 in the country. While unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as smoking, drinking, poor health are being assumed to be some of the factors that have contributed to the number of the death due to COVID-19: Researchers predict men can be more likely to die due to the infection than women.

In China, the epicenter of the outbreak, the rising death rates for men were almost 50% higher than the women of the country.

Similarly, cases of coronavirus from various countries, like Italy has a strong representation of men. According to the country’s National Health Institute (ISS), nearly 60% of the people who were tested COVID positive were men. That’s not it, more than 70 % of the positives who later died to the infection were men.

Other countries like South Korea have portrayed similar trends with higher men population who were tested positive for the virus infection than compared with the country’s women. The country reported about 54% of the death numbers were men.

Health officials have already started to make note of these trends to make some meaningful conclusion of the collected data. Meanwhile, the nationwide data of the United States once released, would be helpful to analyse if any gender is more vulnerable than the other to the nobel virus, reported CNN.

"From Italy, we're seeing another concerning trend. That the mortality in males seems to be twice in every age group of females. Just having the knowledge of that helps us in the United States so we can be very specific in talking to the American people about who to protect and how to protect them," quoted Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House's coronavirus response coordinator to CNN.
