Non-starchy vegetables that could be beneficial for diabetes patients

Diabetes patients need to follow a strict diet and watch the types of foods they eat in order to get better. Non-starchy vegetables can help diabetics manage their blood sugar levels. The vegetables are low GI foods that contain few calories and carbohydrates.

Non-starchy veggies like artichokes, asparagus, and broccoli are also packed with vitamins, minerals, fibre, and phytochemicals. A 2011 study suggests people who follow a diet that is low in calories and include non-starchy vegetables may be able to reverse type 2 diabetes.

Here are a few non-starchy vegetables diabetics can add to their diet:

1. Carrots: This popular vegetable is highly nutritious and has very little impact on blood sugar levels, even though it is a little sweet. It is packed with minerals and vitamins like vitamin A.They are also a good source of fibre, which is beneficial if you have diabetes.

2.Cucumber: This popular salad ingredient helps to keep the body hydrated, as well as helps to keep blood sugar levels under control. They are also a rich source of fibre and can help keep you feeling full for longer.

3. Okra: This vegetable is also known as ladyfinger. It is popularly used in various Indian dishes and for good reason as its nutritional benefits are immense. It is loaded with fibre and can also reduce cholesterol levels.

4.Tomatoes: Tomatoes are consumed all over the world because it is super versatile. You can add it to soups, salads, curries and sauces. It is also packed with nutrition, as well as low in calories and carbs.

5. Cabbage: This fresh green vegetable is ideal for diabetes patients to consume as it contains vitamins, antioxidants, fibre, and minerals. The non-starchy vegetable can be consumed in various ways. It may also help reduce blood sugar levels.
