Yes, as crazy and ridiculous as the title sounds, that's exactly what someone very recently stumbled on. There is now an app that allows people to 'rent a boyfriend' to cure 'depression'. Launched on the 15th of August, the service was founded by 29-year-old Kaushal Prakash who claims he himself “was a victim of depression 3 years ago.” Kaushal who is an interior decorator turned entrepreneur believes he has found the cause of depression. He says, “It’s very simple. A depressed person wishes that someone would listen to what they have to say and understand them. It's not rocket science.”
Although the website reiterates that it is a purely platonic service with the bar between “boy” and “friend”, they still have a cupid in their logo and a multitude of hearts all over the entire website. As of now, their services are offered only in Mumbai and Pune, where people get to pick from 6 handsome young hunks ranging in age from 22 to 25 and with enviable six-pack abs. Kaushal further explained, "I have all A-grade models. You can rent a celebrity for Rs 3000 or a model for up to Rs 2000, or an aam aadmi (commoner) for just Rs 300- 400 per hour."
