As per a study, it has been suggested that eating oranges is linked to lower risk of developing blindness. One of the major reasons for vision loss in those aged 60 and above is age-related macular degeneration that affects the macula, which is the central area of the retina. Hence it causes the loss of central vision, which is required for seeing objects clearly, recognizing faces and tasks like driving.

Dr. Bamini Gopinath said, “Essentially we discovered that individuals who eat a minimum of one serve of orange day-after-day have a lowered threat of growing macular degeneration in contrast with individuals who by no means eat oranges. Even consuming an orange as soon as per week appears to supply important advantages.”

As per study eating at least one serving of oranges every day reduced the risk by 60 percent of developing macular degeneration 15 years later. The doctor further added, “Our analysis is completely different as a result of we targeted on the connection between flavonoids and macular degeneration.”
