This generation has constantly been under the race of succeeding. Some of us want to compete with the other person and the rare ones want to see themselves do better than the past in the future. All of which results in all work and no play. And this old phrase of 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy' only keeps getting worse each day. People have started working late hours and some have no option but to work hectic jobs only to survive through the month. This results in lack of attention on personal life and health. As much as being active in your career is important, it is also so for your personal well being. But with the growing competition each year, it only gets tougher to do so. This leads to work stress. The kind of stress which is hard to get rid off and which also makes your health go down the drain, physically, emotionally and mentally.

Says the new research that work stress and impaired sleep are co-related to a three times higher risk of cardiovascular death in employees who suffer from hypertension. Which means, work pressure can only bring you more reasons to worry. Says Karl-Heinz Ladwig, Professor at Technical University of Munich, Germany, "Sleep should be a time for recreation, unwinding, and restoring energy levels. If you have stress at work, sleep helps you recover." He also continued to say, "Unfortunately poor sleep and job stress often go hand in hand, and when combined with hypertension the effect is even more toxic."

This study included almost 2,000 workers suffering from hypertension and whose age ranged between 25-65 but were without cardiovascular diseases or diabetes. As compared to those who had no work stress, slept well but with both risk factors were at three times higher risk of death from cardiovascular diseases. This was shown in the findings published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.

Ladwig also said, "Being entrapped in a pressured situation that you have no power to change is harmful."

This is why it gets riskier for people who suffer from high blood pressure to take care of their heath, especially when they have a higher demanding job. But they also should be the ones to take extra care of themselves and try to ease out work stress by indulging in various stress management activities.

Apart from that, even workplaces should encourage having stress management workshops for their employees on regular intervals as it helps a lot of workers to come forward and talk about their work problems and difficulties that they must be facing.
