Pregnancy is a wonderful stage in most women’s life. The feeling of carrying another life inside the womb can be exciting and life-changing. However, these feelings are more likely to change into fear and worry if you happen to be pregnant during the pandemic caused by COVID-19. It’s important to pay special attention to the body for expecting mothers, but stressing over the pandemic can do more harm than any good.

According to the CDC, pregnant women are not at a higher risk of developing an infection from coronavirus. Studies in Wuhan also suggest that pregnant mothers suffering from coronavirus are more likely to not pass on the infection to their newly-borns. Hence, it can be safe to say that so far there has been found zero foetal abnormalities in the infants due to the mother suffering from the deadly COVID-19.

However, there still lies a slim chance where the weakened immune system of an expecting mother can determine the health of the baby. As suggested by doctors, it’s better to practice some extra steps to ensure the safety of both, baby and the mother during this current outbreak of coronavirus. Here’s what you can do if you’re expecting a child:

Practice proper sanitation. Make sure you’re washing your hands frequently and avoid gatherings.

Avoid touching your face with your hands frequently.

Don’t compromise on sleep and a balanced diet.

Don’t surround yourself with negative news only.

Consult your doctor for routine check-ups online instead of stepping out.

If you happen to notice any symptom of the COVID-19, consult your doctor at the earliest for diagnosis.
