Even though sleep is the thing we need to perform well when we are awake, it's something most of us can't seem to catch enough of. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), many people in the US are prescribed medication to get through the night. You need to asses if you are getting enough sleep as it may be the reason it's getting in the way of your fitness goals. "When we don't get adequate sleep, our bodies release more cortisol and adrenaline — stress hormones to keep us going," Cynthia Li, MD, a board-certified internist, told a news portal. She further explained, "this can create a sustained high-stress state in the body, which dampens the body's capacity to repair itself."
