Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. We all know what snoring sounds like - annoying. While usually snoring isn't caused due to any serious health issues, what it can do is really irritate your partner. Not all people who snore suffer from sleep apnea but the ones who do, really need to be careful as it can lead to health problems.

"If your partner observes that you are snoring loudly and then there is a sudden pause, it is a sign of sleep apnea. Also, if you experience headaches in the morning, dryness of the mouth, experience frequent urination at night, or drooling, these are all signs of snoring because of sleep apnea." Here's what you can do to prevent snoring:

Changing your sleeping position helps. When you lie on your back, your tongue and soft palate collapse on the back of your throat's wall. So to avoid this, try to sleep on your sides.

Try and open your nasal passages. This can be done by taking a hot bath before bed or rinsing your nose with salt water and a few other methods. Ultimately, an open nasal passage will ensure that you don't snore.

Reduce alcohol consumption. Try to not consume alcohol for up to 4-5 hours before you go to sleep. Drinking alcohol can make snoring worse and may also cause snoring in people who don't usually snore.

Stay hydrated. When you keep yourself hydrated, it will make sure that your nasal passage stays unclogged. And this, in turn, will prevent snoring.

- Keep your head elevated. When you elevate your head, you end up opening your nasal passage and opening your airway, which helps in preventing snoring. So, use additional pillows to keep your head elevated.

Well, we hope these tips will come to your rescue. Stay tuned for more updates.
