Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially for people with type 2 diabetes as it helps manage the condition.

A new study has found why it is important to eat well in the morning to manage type 2 diabetes.

German researchers reviewed data of96,000 people from six different studies to understand the link between breakfast and diabetes. They found skipping breakfast even once a week can increase our risk of type 2 diabetes. The risk was even higher for those who skipped the meal four times a week.

Researchers say 1 out 3 people has prediabetes and the numbers are growing across the globe. Weight gain and a sedentary lifestyle also contribute to developing the health issue. Managing the condition or avoiding it altogether is crucial as it can lead to heart disease and kidney damage.

Not eating in the morning also creates insulin resistance and over time could worsen type 2 diabetes. "Insulin resistance is a condition that requires more insulin to bring blood sugar into the normal range. And when it's chronic, there's a major risk factor for type-2 diabetes," researcher Jenna Freeman Scudder, RD, a dietitian at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, told a news portal.

Since you have to eat this meal for your health, make the most of it. Don't just grab an apple and be done with it. Make sure you have all the good foods that can help control this condition. Whole-grain cereal, scrambled eggs and toast, breakfast burrito and fresh fruit are great ways to start the day with.
