The thought of dyeing your hair is itself exciting. A change in hair colour can bring so much of freshness and confidence in a person’s look. However, one less talked topic about hair colouring is its maintenance. To keep up with the lustrous hair colour, one requires to dedicate time to nourish your mane. From using colour protectants to making rounds to the salon for root touch-ups, one of the biggest frustration is the brassiness from colour dyes that makes your locks look unhealthy. The brassiness would typically be yellow to a copper in the shade that can turn your red hair into warm hues that you never wanted in the first place. However, Some people might also have brassy looking hair even without experimenting with colour. Good news is, it is easy to treat this not so good-looking hair tone if you know the correct techniques. You can fix it yourself at home.

A popular way to prevent yellowish tone is to use blue or purple shampoo. The cool tone of these two colour variants acts as a colour corrector to cancel out the warm tone. You can easily find these colour correcting shampoos in any beauty supply store.

Cutting down on alcohol-based hair grooming product can also help to prevent brassy tones as it accelerates fading of hair colours.

One can also use shower heads to filter out the water as water with chlorine and iron deposits tends to fade/alter your hair colour.

Another trick is to mix an equal part of blue hair colour with conditioner and apply it to your hair. You should leave it more than ten to fifteen minutes to avoid tinting your hair in lilac or blue shade. This is a quick fix that can help your hair temporarily. You must not overdo it. Most importantly, don’t forget to maintain your hair with nourishing shampoo and conditioner.

Lowlighting or dying darker shades of streaks is also a great way to cancel out brassy hair.
