Chris Magee, head of yoga at Psycle London says, “Within the physical movements, there are lots of opportunities to elongate the muscles.” Tai Chi is something that loosens the muscles and allows the body to fully stretch. It is very useful for people with limited mobility to recover from injuries or balance problems as it can very much be adapted to suit a range of abilities.

- Hold the stretch for long: Stretching can get difficult but not doing it enough is a common mistake. Dr Tony Kay, professor of biomechanics at the University of Northampton says, “Most people only hold a stretch for five to 10 seconds, but if you want to affect the stiffness of the tissues, it needs to be for quite a bit longer.” There are different opinions on how long should you hold for a stretch but 30 seconds is recommended.

- Make sure you're getting enough of protein: Including a good diet rich in protein post workout is good for the body. Protein combined with vitamin C decreases joint pain, supports the tendons and aids recovery too. Protein rich foods help in reducing muscle soreness after you're done exercising.

- Take a warm water bath: A good warm water shower can have more of a psychological benefit. Stretching and increasing your flexibility is the muscle's natural protective response. And so you need to relax them too with a warm water bath or shower. It can get you all fresh and relaxed post workout.
