Making sure your teeth are white and sparkling brightly isn't just visually appealing. The colour of your teeth is an indication of your oral hygiene. Your risk of disease and infection are lower when they are white. However, plaque build-up can create issues. Here are simple ways you can maintain and achieve white teeth.

* Consume strawberries

Strawberries can act as a natural teeth whitener despite its bright red colour. A study published in the Padjadjaran Journal of Dentistry discovered this berry juice can work effectively to brighten teeth that were stained by coffee. “The key thing is that strawberries contain malic acid, which whitens the teeth,” dentist Dr Richard Marques told a news portal. Marques also recommends consuming vegetables that are crunchy as they can have the same effect as strawberries on teeth.

* Consume cheese

Cheese contains minerals that can make your enamel stronger and teeth white. “It’s got calcium in it for a start, which is really good for your teeth,”Marques told a news portal. Consume whiter cheeses, like cheddar, as they have been found to have the most effective cleansing properties. Cheeses like brie and blue cheese do have the same impact.

* Make good oral hygiene a habit

Brushing your teeth for four minutes daily in the morning and night is the best way to make sure your teeth stay white. Make this a habit.“There is some evidence that powered toothbrushes are better, particularly the ones with the small heads, but if you have a good technique, it doesn’t matter what you use,” Professor Damien Walmsley, a scientific adviser to the British Dental Association, told a news portal. When you are brushing your teeth, make sure to get in every nook and cranny. You should also floss and use a mouthwash for best results.

* Use baking soda toothpaste to brush your teeth

A 2011 study found tubes of toothpaste that contain baking soda were far more effective at whitening teeth and reducing stains than other types of toothpaste. You can also add some baking soda on your toothbrush and directly apply it on your teeth. However, do not do this often as it can cause damage to the tooth enamel.

* Visit a dentist

If natural remedies aren't working and your teeth are severely damaged, you need to visit a dentist for professional help. You need to tackle the issue before it gets worse and the best way to do that is seeking expert advice and proper treatment. “You never know what you’re going to get. Studies have found that some products contained high levels of hydrogen peroxide that can be very damaging for the enamel,” Walmsley told a news portal.
