‘Breakfast is the most important meal of the day’ – we’ve lost count the number of times we’ve heard it. Fitness enthusiasts would specifically get up an hour early so that they don’t miss out the goodness of the most important meal of the day. But to every fitness enthusiasts’ disappointment and every lazy person’s pleasant surprise, a recent research study suggests that breakfast has no impact one’s weight loss journey at all.

Eating a hearty breakfast doesn't help people eat less later in the day, and those who have breakfast end up eating more calories each day, the review found.

"We should not change diets to include breakfast eating in order to lose weight. Do what works best for you," said review senior author Flavia Cicuttini. She is head of the musculoskeletal unit at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

"The evidence is that eating breakfast does tend to add to the overall calorie intake of the person and to overall weight gain," Cicuttini said.

But Cicuttini also noted this may not be a solution that suits everybody. So if you like having your morning breakfast, you may go ahead and relish it.

In conclusion, skipping breakfast is not the dietary evil it is often portrayed to be, forgoing that first meal of the morning isn't likely to be a diet cure-all either.
