Small ways to improve your mental health in 2020

Life's challenges can take a huge toll on your mental health. Making the time and effort to check in on yourself every now and then can significantly improve the quality of your life. Here are a few small ways to improve your mental health in 2020.

* Focus on the moment

It's easy to get lost in the daily grind. You miss out on special moments that should be memorable. Looking to the future or fretting on the past can make you miss out on the good things in your life in the present.

* Hug more often

Be open to giving and receiving hugs. While it may sound weird, hugging releases endorphins and hormones like oxytocin, which can make you feel good and lift your spirits. However, sense the vibe and avoid hugging someone who is not comfortable with it.

* Live more consciously

Feeling more in control of your life can make you feel more satisfied and there is research to back that up. So take out some time in your day to plan your goals into manageable tasks.

* Make sure your clothes are colourful

Black may never go out of style, but a colourful number can significantly give your mental health a boost. Some studies suggest wearing bright coloured clothes can increase the release of a hormone called dopamine, which can significantly improve your mood.

* Be creative

Getting creative can help stimulate the brain, which can help give your energy a boost. Doing something like a little painting could also make you feel like you accomplished something. You can even choose to do something like puzzles, riddles, or word game.
