If you're someone who's on the process of losing weight would and should know that what you drink matters as much as what you eat. Shedding some kilos is a task and eating right and exercising right isn't the only thing that will make you reach the goal. So the only thing you'd know to stop having is soda drinks, including the ones that are the diet versions of it. And these days, sparkling water is much in trend and is claimed as a safe and harmless substitute. This is why it is important to have full information on the things that goes inside your body, like sparkling water. Did you know that there are some sparkling waters that could indirectly make you gain weight?

Drinking plenty of water is sure helpful as it maintains the energy levels, improves digestion and keeps your organs running smoothly. However, sparkling water can keep you hydrated only and only if it's plain and unsweetened.

Says Brigitte Zeitlin, MPH, RD, CDN, a registered dietitian in New York City, "The carbonation in the water can cause you to feel bloated and gassy due to the air bubbles, which can make you feel uncomfortable and perhaps like you have gained weight, but it is not a true weight gain."

Added sweeteners can increase the numbers on the scale. These sweetened drinks could also cause blood sugar levels to rise and also drop soon after which leaves you craving for sweets.

Says Zeitlin, "Unnecessary snacking does contribute to weight gain, and of course, what you choose to snack on can contribute even more so to extra pounds. So, stick to plain sparkling water or seltzer, and if you need some flavor, add a slice of lemon, lime, orange, or cucumber."
