Study states 'party-boys' are a lot more likely to be sexually aggressive

What's the one thing everyone likes to do when they're in college? Party like there's no tomorrow of course! So, while you may think that there's no harm in it, new research says otherwise. Apparently, college boys who like to party hard and drink more tend to be a lot more sexually aggressive as compared to boys who don't party. "We found that it wasn't alcohol use, per se, that leads to sexual aggression," said Michael Cleveland, Associate Professor at Washington State University.

"But the combination of alcohol and the setting that the drinking takes place in had a major impact on the number of reported aggressive tactics used," Cleveland added. For the study, the researchers conducted a survey via email and online on over 1000 male college going students. "We asked them how often they drank and if and how often they went to bars or parties," Cleveland said. "Then we asked if they used any specific tactics to convince, or even pressure, women to have sex with them," he added.

Most students revealed that they did, in fact, use certain tactics like threatening to break up with the women they were seeing or getting them drunk intentionally just to get in bed with them. The study also found that the higher chances there were of these students to resort to heavy drinking during freshmen years, the more likely they were to develop sexually aggressive behaviours.

As per the study, men who also went drinking to bars and pubs quite frequently had higher levels of impersonal sexual orientation. Since they often ended up with multiple sexual partners, they also felt the need to engage in sex without commitment which could further their sexually aggressive behaviours.
