Obesity is one of the leading causes of death around the world. Now, it turns out there's a leading necessity to prevent obesity because of its consequences on mental and physical health. A recent study conducted explored physical factors such as body weight, heart health and blood pressure to see whether individuals with poor physical health were less happy than individuals with good physical health.

Various studies conducted in the past have shown that individuals who are happy and content in their lives often have better physical health and live longer compared to people who have lower mental well being. A technique called Mendelian randomization was used to determine if individuals with lower mental well being would have problems later in life. The research concluded that individuals with higher BMI had lower mental well being.

The researchers also found that from all the physical factors, higher BMI played a key factor in lower mental health. This effect is apparently clearly visible from age 40 through age 70, and in both men and women. Stay tuned for more updates.
