Based on it's name, the moon really was super as there appeared a blood moon, a blue moon and an eclipse! A supermoon occurs when a full moon is closest to Earth in a single orbit. However, the supermoon on Jan. 31 was extra special because it happened during a lunar eclipse. A blue moon happens when a full moon occurs twice in the same month. In this instance, there was a full moon on Jan. 1, and another on Jan. 31. And lastly, a blood moon is when hues of red show after the eclipse reaches totality. So there you have it.
