While we celebrate Republic Day today and we have a long weekend waiting for us, so this time try something new and different this time if you’re feeling patriotic. These places in India will make you feel patriotic for sure. These are some of the beautiful places you must visit as you have a chance to go this weekend. Take a walk down memory lane and visit a place, which reminds you of the history behind this freedom. So here are 5 places that you must visit. Check out these 5 places in India:




India Gate in Delhi

The top most places which will definitely make you feel patriotic. It has inscriptions of soldiers and various people who fought for our nation. The India Gate was built in memory of Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War and the Afghan War. Situated near Rajpath, it is 42 meters high and was initially known as the All India War Memorial. Since 1971, the Amar Jawan Jyoti, a flame has been continuously burning at the India Gate to commemorate the Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the wake of the War of Liberation of Bangladesh.






Jallianwala Bagh, Punjab

This place is a public garden in Amritsar in the Punjab state of India, and houses a memorial of national importance, established in 1951 by the Government of India, to commemorate the massacre of peaceful celebrators including unarmed women and children by British occupying forces, on the occasion of the Punjabi New Year on April 13, 1919 in the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Colonial British Raj sources identified 379 fatalities and estimated about 1100 wounded.Civil Surgeon Dr. Smith indicated that there were 1,526 casualties.The true figures of fatalities are unknown, but are very likely to be many times higher than the official figure of 379.




Agra Fort, Uttar Pradesh

Agra Fort is located (270 10’ 47’’N & 780 1’ 22’’ E) on the right bank of the river Yamuna in the city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the most important and robustly built stronghold of the Mughals, embellished with number of richly decorated buildings encompassing the imposing Mughal style of art and architecture. It was constructed by the third Mughal emperor Akbar on the remains of an ancient site known as Badalgarh. Sikandar Lodi (1487-1517) was the first Sultan of Delhi to shift his capital from Delhi to Agra. After Sikandar Lodi who died in 1517, his son Ibrahim Lodi held the fort for 9 years until he was defeated and killed in the battle of Panipat in 1526. Several palaces, wells and a mosque were built in the fort during the Lodi period.





Raj Ghat, New Delhi

Raj Ghat is a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. Originally it was the name of a historic ghat of Old Delhi (Shahjahanabad) on the banks of Yamuna River. Close to it and east of Daryaganj was Raj Ghat Gate of the walled city, opening at Raj Ghat on Yamuna River. Later the memorial area was also called Raj ghat. It is a black marble platform that marks the spot of Mahatma Gandhi's cremation, Antyeshti (Antim Sanskar) on 30 January 1948, a day after his assassination. It is left open to the sky while an eternal flame burns perpetually at one end. It is located on the banks of the river Yamuna in Delhi in India on Ring Road officially known as Mahatma Gandhi Road. A stone footpath flanked by lawns leads to the walled enclosure that houses the memorial. All guests must remove their footwear before entering the Raj Ghat walls.





Sabarmati Ashram, Gujarat

This place is located in the Sabarmati suburb of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, adjoining the Ashram Road, on the banks of the River Sabarmati, four miles from the town hall. This was one of the residences of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, generally called Mahatma Gandhi, who lived there for about twelve years along with his wife, Kasturba Gandhi. It was from his base here that Gandhi led the Dandi march also known as the Salt Satyagraha on 12 March 1930. In recognition of the significant influence that this march had on the Indian independence movement the Indian government has established the ashram as a national monument.
