Multiple studies have discovered certain jobs can be damaging to one's health. Your risk of developing a disease can be extremely high depending on your occupation. Cancer is one disease that has become a huge public concern in recent years as the number of cases is on the rise. Here is a list of jobs that may increase your risk of cancer.
* Pilots: A study published in the journal JAMA reveals pilots on duty can be exposed to extremely high levels of UV radiations. This can increase the risk of skin cancer. Researchers say sitting in the cockpit exposed to these extremely harmful rays is as bed as laying in a tanning bed for about 20 minutes.
*Lifeguards: The sun's rays are the strongest between 10 in the morning till four in the evening, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). That is why experts urge people to avoid being out for too long during those times or at least use a good sunscreen. Unfortunately for lifeguards, staying indoors during that crucial period might not be an option. The risk of skin and breast cancer is extremely high for those who have chosen this profession.
*Desk job: Sitting at your desk all day long can be extremely harmful to your health in many ways, which includes increasing your risk of cancer. A 2009 study found people who spend most of their day sitting were likely to develop the disease even if they exercised regularly.
*Nail salon workers: Carcinogenic chemical benzene has been found to be present in many salons, according to a study published in the journal Environmental Pollution. Exposure to such strong fumes can increase the risk of cancer in people that work in salons. "This is a fairly small study, but if this is representative this is very concerning. Leukaemia isn't that common but if the risk is increased by this much, it is no longer a small number of cases," Brian Christman, a spokesperson for the American Lung Association, told a news portal.
*Firefighters: People in this profession not only work under dangerous conditions, but they are also exposed to toxic substances. These chemicals can have an impact on their health long after the fire is put out and their suits are off.

If you work in any of these fields, you should seek counsel on how you can take precaution to protect your health.
