The last we checked, no woman enjoyed being on her period. Headaches, anxiety, fatigue along with heavy bleeding and cramps only put a damper to an otherwise good day. No wonder, women all around plan their lives around those dreadful 5 days.

The main culprit for these symptoms is associated with higher estrogen and lower progesterone states. While higher estrogen levels cause more bleeding, progesterone keeps the growth of estrogen in check. But a happier, painless period is just a few small changes away. Read on, to find out what they are.

Dietary changes to promote estrogen-progesterone balance

The bad news is that some foods can increase estrogen levels. But the good news? You can just avoid these food groups for a painless period. Avoid meat, dairy, soy products, flaxseeds, sesame seeds and beans. Alternatively, you can add organic produce, yams and fish to your diet to boost your progesterone levels.

Vitamin and mineral supplements

The truth is, most of us could be nutritionally deficient and we wouldn’t even know it. Nutritionally deficient, along with caffeine, alcohol and other lifestyle factors, only add to the depleted levels of vitamins and minerals. It’s a good idea to consume magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids tablets along with your diet.

Deep breathing and meditation

The rising stress levels and unhealthy lifestyle habits can make your menstrual cycle more painful than it has to be. Taking some time out to practise meditation, deep breathing and yoga are proven to help reduce stress levels, and thus ultimately have a better period.
