These superfoods for summer will give you the much needed chill!

It's that time of the year when the heat strikes too bad and our body feels the lack of fluids and proper health. During this summer time, we need to specially focus on eating appropriate foods in order to stay hydrated. Compared to men, women need more sodium and potassium, which works its way to properly re-hydrate our bodies. We're listing down a few superfoods that are recommended to be consumed during these hot months of the year to better your health.

- Cucumber: This is the most important summer superfood. it is superpowers to keep you hydrated as it contains 96% water. It also has a little amount of carbohydrate and a few calories. Hence, it's great for diabetes and for losing weight as well.

- Mint leaves: One of the most widely used herbs across the continent is mint leaves. It is properties that can calm and soothe dry skin and add a glow. It has high vitamin C content and so it can be used for iron deficiency as well. Adding vitamin C to your meals will in turn increase iron absorption from your meals by 30%. Mint adds a certain flavour to most of your sumemr dishes including salads, drinks, chutneys, etc.

- Kokum: This one is traditionally used as a weight loss remedy for many countries since it has excellent antioxidant properties. It is also used to treat digestive issues and it protects you from heat too. It has average amounts of vitamin C, potassium and other trace elements. This fruit can be used in sherbets or can be eaten raw and can even be used in jams and marmalades.

- Raw mango: This one is the most awaited fruit in summer. It provides your body with vitamins, fibre and minerals. It must be consumed at least 2-3 times a week.

- Watermelon: This fruit is an excellent source of weight loss as it contains 91% water. It also has trace amounts of vitamins and minerals. Although, people with diabetes must avoid this fruit due to its high Glycemic value.

- Curd: Curd is one of the best foods that is available to mankind. It has probiotics that helps in aiding digestion. It is rich in vitamin B12, calcium, phosphorus, protein and all essential amino acids. It can also be consumed as lassi, smoothie, raita or buttermilk as well as in many other ways. If you wish to have a smooth and glowing skin, curd should be your best friend.
