An anti-inflammatory diet could be the secret to living a long life, according to a recent study. Researchers say a diet packed with nuts, vegetables and fruits reduces the risk of inflammatory disorders and premature death.

Scientists came to this conclusion after conducting a study on 68,273 Swedish men and women between the ages of 45 and 83. For close to 16 years, the team at Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland followed the patterns of these participants.

Through the process, they found that those who mainly followed an anti-inflammatory diet had an 18 percent reduced risk of all-cause mortality. They were also 20 percent less likely to die from heart diseases.

One of the reasons this particular diet is so beneficial is because it is rich in antioxidants, which is essential to tackle radical activity and lower markers of inflammation in the body. Inflammatory disorders weaken the body's natural immune response as it attacks cells and tissues.

Some of the foods incorporated in this diet are almonds, walnuts, tomatoes and olive oil.Foods high in salt, sugar, fat and refined carbohydrates need to be avoided while on this diet.
