As a patient of type 2 diabetes, you have to focus on eating whole foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, nutrients, fibre, and antioxidants. This helps keep the blood sugar in control and helps keep fuller for longer.
Here’s what you should be eating more of – greens
Studies have shown eating a wide variety of foods that includes a healthy dosage of fruits and vegetables helps reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, and cancer. For greens, leafy vegetables like kale, collard greens are are great options because of their high nutrition in low calories.
These greens are also an excellent source of vitamins, minerals including fibre, vitamin c- all of which are beneficial for type 2 diabetes patients. Leafy greens also contain significant amounts of antioxidants (lutein and zeaxanthin) that protect your eyes from cataract and macular degeneration - common complications linked to diabetes.
But it wins brownie points because they have less digestible cabs which are responsible for causing blood sugar spikes and weight gain when consumed in excess. These leafy veggies also contain proteins which are essential for a healthy diabetes diet.
