This is how loud noise can affect your health

Loud noise at work due to loud machinery or at an airport or even loud music in general can get annoying and can also affect your health.

Studies have linked the exposure of noise to many health issues in people. There are two new studies that have given insight into how this type of noise exposure can cause high blood pressure and cancer-related DNA damage as well.

Study researcher Matthias Oelze from the University Medical Centre of Mainz in Germany says, "Our new data provide additional mechanistic insights into these adverse health effects, especially high blood pressure and potentially cancer development, both leading causes of global death."

The research found out that the healthy mice who were exposed to aircraft noise for four days were more likely to get high blood pressure issues. For mice with pre-established high blood pressure, the noise exposure aggravated heart damage due to the synergistic increase of oxidative stress and inflammation in the cardiovascular and neuronal systems.

In the other study, the researchers noticed the same noise exposure induced oxidative DNA damage in mice. This was led due to a highly mutagenic DNA lesion which was previously associated with the development of cancer in other settings.

There have been several studies conducted on the health effects of noise which includes interactions of pre-established cardiovascular diseases with noise and also behavioural effects of noise exposure in mice.

Oelze said, "These new findings, together with our other work on noise-associated cardiovascular effects, could lead to a better understanding of how noise influences health."

He even noted, "This information could help inform policies and regulations that better protect people against diseases related to noise exposure."
