There’s just something about burgers that make them so universally favourite. They are delicious and they can be relished fully even when you are on the go. Kids, young adults and adults all seem to have a thing for them. But we all know that burgers aren’t the healthiest food to eat. Hence, they are usually reserved for that occasional binge as opposed to regular meat. They are most definitely harmful to your heart. But if you don’t seem to believe it, read on to find out what science has to say about it.
Not only are burgers high on calories, carbs and fats, they also have an excess amount of soium which can be bad for the health. For example, a single hamburger contains 500 calories, 25 grams of fat, 40 grams of carbs, 10 grams of sugar, and 1,000 milligrams of sodium, which is enough to cause havoc in your system.
The effects of a burger start showing in, within 15 minutes of taking a bite of it. Your body will first start experiencing a massive surge of glucose, which will trigger the release of insulin and make you feel hungrier in a matter of hours. Repeating this pattern can increase the risk of diabetes. In scientific terms, the process of taking excessive calories in one sitting puts oxidative stress on cells.

Burgers are also high in saturated fat. For the purpose of a study, a group of healthy men were fed with food high in saturated fat, it was found that their arteries were significantly impaired and did not dilate as much. This restriction of blood flow can lead to cardiac disease later in life.
The high amount of sodium can have a negative impact on the blood vessel.

So next time you have the temptation to grab a burger, think twice!
