Maintaining the skin is very necessary. But above all, the skin on our lips is extra sensitive and needs care even more than our normal skin. Nobody would like to see dark or chapped lips. Beautiful soft pink lips are so attractive and also, it isn't rocker science to achieve them. Achieving pink lips will of course take a little effort and time, but it'll surely be the most gorgeous smile to look at, don't you think?

How do lips turn dark? Well, it could be the coffee or tea you keep sipping on. It could also be the sun or smoking habits. Even the overuse of lipsticks and chemical products on your lips can lead to the pigmentation. And so, resorting to natural remedies could work the best on the lips. We've listed a few home remedies below which you can put to use instantly.

- Lemon/honey: People with dark pigmented lips should make a mixture of lemon and honey which then converts into a serum like liquid. All you have to do is coat your lips with this serum and leave it on for an hour before wiping it off with a soft, wet cloth. This will remove the tan on your lips and also lighten the pigmentation.

- Coconut oil: This one is surely regarded as a saviour for reasons more than one. Since the oil contains fatty acids, it moisturizes the lips at night and helps reduce pigmentation. It also helps in keeping the lips health and also helps avoid chapping.

- Beetroot: Also known as a natural lipstick beetroot is a great help to lighten the dark lips. Slice the beetroot and store it in the refrigerator. Scrub a cool beetroot slice on your lips for a couple of minutes whenever you get some free time and you'll start seeing the difference sooner than later.

- Apple cider vinegar: This one's made by crushing the apples and squeezing the juice out of it. A spoonful of apple cider vinegar mixed with water can be dabbed on the lips with the help of a cotton pad. Leave it on for about 10-12 minutes before washing it off a few minutes later. Make sure you don't leave in on for too long as it can damage the skin even more.
