Trying to lose weight is no easy task. It can turn into quite a big hassle especially if you're unsure of what you're doing. Weight loss is all about losing calories the right way. You need to burn as many calories as you're consuming. But now, there's a new diet that's actually really popular amongst bodybuilders and athletes and this diet is known as the reverse diet.



In this diet, a person is supposed to increase their calorie intake instead of decreasing it and hence it has the name reverse dieting. Most people who follow this diet are the ones who first restrict their calories and then later come back to their normal eating habits in which they consume calories. Due to this back and forth between their diets, they are able to lose weight.



When they start consuming calories after restricting them for a while, their metabolism speeds up thus helping them burn fat. Some experts also believe that reverse dieting might just help boost energy as well as reduce hunger. A person is required to gradually increase calorie intake over several weeks when they're on the reverse diet.



Normally with any diet, people are required to decrease their calorie intake over a period of time and while this may help them lose some weight, what it also does is it reduces their metabolism. And this can turn into a problem in the long run because if a person wants to resume eating like they normally do, they might end up gaining weight because of their reduced metabolism.



For the reverse diet, a person is required to increase calorie intake by 50–100 calories per week. Basically, they're required to consume 50-100 calories more than their normal input. They need to do this for 4-10 weeks depending on their target or pre-diet intake. This can help boost their metabolism while also helping burn calories through non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) like walking, talking, and fidgeting.



The best thing about reverse dieting is that it is believed to reduce the risk of binge eating. However, much more is needed to be studied about this diet before it can actually properly be implemented. The practicality of the diet is still unknown. Stay tuned for more updates.
