Lots of people who want to quit smoking are afraid of doing so because of one reason only - the fear of putting on weight. And due to this reason, plenty of people who want to quit smoking either delay doing it or don't quit at all. While there have been studies that have shown that people do gain some weight after they quit smoking, one must understand that the amount of weight gained is rather nominal. And not quitting smoking can actually result in health conditions that are much worse than just putting on a few kilos.

However, if you want to quit smoking and you're still afraid of putting on weight, here are a few tips that could help you maintain it:

- Firstly, you need to drink plenty of fluids and this includes drinking lots of water. Try to drink natural fluids that contain lots of raw vegetable juices which contain antioxidants that can work effectively to flush out toxins from the body.

- Opt for some regular physical activity. This will help boost your metabolism while also helping you burn calories. Plus, it will also result in the release of dopamine which is the feel-good hormone in the body. Try exercises like running, swimming, playing tennis or squash, skipping etc.

- Make sure your diet is balanced. Include all the right amounts of vegetables and carbs as well as proteins and fibre-rich foods. Not only will this help you maintain your weight but it will also help you avoid hunger pangs.

- Set a pattern for your diet and follow it religiously. When you feel hungry you might feel like reaching for a cigarette, but instead, if you plan on munching on some healthy snacks during that time, you could easily avoid smoking.
