Trying to quit smoking? There's no time like the present to become a healthier you. However, giving up the habit can be hard, especially at the start. Those tobacco cravings can be hard to brush aside. Here are a few simple tips on how you can control and tackle your tobacco cravings, according to the Mayo Clinic.

* Nicotine replacement therapy

Seek expert advice and consult with your doctor about this form of therapy. There are many options to choose from: Over-the-counter nicotine patches or prescription nicotine in a nasal spray are just some of the options you can try.

* Try to stay clear of triggers

It is important to identify what your triggers are when it comes to smoking. This way you can stay clear of them to avoid the habit. Maybe you feel the need to smoke tobacco at a party or when you're stressed. Prepare for those times by having strategies in place when you are craving a cigarette the most.

* Delay as much as you can

Sometimes, it can be hard not to give in to cravings. If you feel like you are going to cave and smoke, try and delay it as much as you can. Take a walk and wait for a few minutes. Head to areas that are smoke-free to distract yourself.

*Chew on gum

If you are a regular smoker, then lighting up that cigarette may almost be second nature. Check on gum or carrots instead. Make sure what you are eating has a crunch to it.

* Avoid smoking completely

If you are giving up the habit, then give it up completely. Indulging even in one a day may make it harder to resist another one. Before you know it, you may not be able to stop yourself.

* Get moving

If you are looking to quit tobacco, that means you want to become healthier and what better way to do that than with regular exercise. Moving your body is not just healthy, but it will keep you distracted. There are many ways to get your body moving and they don't all have to be intense and for very long. Something as simple as cleaning up your home can be beneficial.
