Established in the year 1994, World Vegan Day is celebrated every year since, through exhibitions, seminars, public debates, workshops etc. It is an annual event that commemorates the holistic benefits of converting to veganism and is observed every year on the 1st of November.

What is veganism? It is the practice of abstaining from consuming any kind of animal products, particularly in the diet. It would mean saying no to dairy products, eggs, meat, honey and other derived substances. From athletes to lifestyle experts, celebrities are more, several well-known names follow this lifestyle choice. Indian cricket captain, Virat Kohli is the latest on the list, who announced that he too has decided to go vegan. Studies state that going vegan could facilitate weight loss and aid in better health. In order to ensure that you are following the vegan diet right in order to achieve weight loss goals, here are the things to keep in mind:

1. Pick healthy alternatives
A vegan diet allows you to choose healthier options and alternatives to junk food. It makes for a wholesome and healthy diet.

2. Watch your portions
Veganism involves not overeating and keeping a check on how much you eat on a daily basis.

3. Load up on protein
A protein-rich diet is essential for losing weight. And while animal-based products are considered high in protein content, you could choose vegetarian options too, like soybean, lentils, chickpeas, black beans, and quinoa as part of this diet. All these vegetarian options are high in protein.

4. Eat a lot of greens
Greens should be consumed on a daily basis as part of veganism. They are the most nutrient-dense, low in calorie and high in fibre content. You could include broccoli, spinach, zucchini and mustard greens in your diet.
Will you be switching over to being a vegan soon?
