CBFC has denied certification to the Punjabi film 'Toofan Singh' on the grounds of 'excessive violence'
Prasoon Joshi, who has just stepped in as the new chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has banned the first film under consideration to be certified. Chaired by Prasoon Joshi, CBFC has denied certification to the Punjabi film 'Toofan Singh' on the grounds of 'excessive violence'.

An insider source claimed, "Toofan Singh is a terrorist, who goes on a rampage killing corrupt cops and politicians. And they’ve compared him to Bhagat Singh. The film is brutal and anarchic. We couldn’t empathise with its message of brute power, let alone grant it a censor certificate."

While the film is facing issues getting a release in India, the film has already released overseas and has been garnering rave reviews. The film has been directed by Baghal Singh and stars Ranjit Bawa in the lead.

Prasoon's predecessor, Pahlaj Nihalani, who was recently sacked by the board was infamous for his controversial decisions. In fact, after being appointed, Prasoon had said, "Good intent is the best beginning. Bearing responsibility and doing my best has been my endeavour. I have believed that right and responsibilities are better served with constructive contribution. One hopes to make a positive difference with the guidance and support of respected minds."
