Did Rajkumar Hirani not want Sanjay Dutt to co-produce his own biopic?

The Sanjay Dutt biopic, just like Sanjay's real life, is always surrounded by controversies. The first draw was when Sanjay got drunk and insulted Ranbir calling him a no match for his biopic, followed by Sanjay announcing it in public that he has started avoiding Ranbir. When the media questioned director Rajkumar Hirani about the same, Rajkumar rubbished the rumours calling them Sanjay's soft jokes. But initially, Rajkumar too is said to have had issues with Sanjay co-producing the film. If rumours are anything to go by, then Rajkumar did not want Sanjay to be on board as co-producer as the filmmaker didn't want Sanjay to interfere in the process. Rajkumar wanted a free hand in the making of Sanjay's biopic and displayed displeasure when Sanjay insisted he co-produce the film along with Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
However, Sanjay was not too happy with Rajkumar's stance and took that to Vidhu's notice. Vidhu didn't want a rift between Rajkumar and Sanjay, and so he insisted that Sanjay be on board as the co-producer. Well, the differences continue to be present between them, but Rajkumar sure knows how to keep his cool. The director is handling the situation in the best way possible.
