The actor speaks about discrimination based on appearance in Bollywood as well as our society in general…
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is vocal about the issue of colour discrimination in India, explained his take on the same in a recent interview with us.

Nawaz said, “Even when I went looking for work, the 5th AD used to ask me, 'kya hai'? When I said,' actor hai, kuch kaam hai toh batao', he'd look at me from top to bottom and say, "Dikhne se toh actor nahi lagte ho'. I used to act and show and they even liked it but never thought I was a 'hero material'. I told them, 'batado material kaise ekattha karte hai'.

Even in society, my relatives and neighbours mocked me when they got to know that I wanted to be an actor. They would say, "shakal, surat toh dekh lo." I have faced this a lot. Also I fail to understand why am I being tagged as ‘unconventional’? Mujhe aaj tak samajh mein yeh cheej nahi aayi. Humein unconventional bola jata hai jab 90 per cent humare jaise log rehte hai yahan par! Why am I the unconventional hero?”
