With just a few days to go, Shahid Kapoor is both nervous and excited about the release of his much-awaited period drama ‘Rangoon’. Shahid’s previous projects with director Vishal Bhardwaj, ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Haider’, have not only been commercially successful but have also earned critical acclaim.

Recently in an exclusive interview with team MissKyra, we asked Shahid if he feels the pressure to deliver another hit with ‘Rangoon’. To this, he said, “I don’t think me and Vishal Sir set out to make hit films when we did ‘Haider’ and ‘Kaminey’, we set out to make good films. We are in a time where good films end up doing well. There was a time where good films used to just go without getting noticed because they didn’t have big stars or maybe they were too off-topic or they were not commercial enough, not mainstream enough. I don’t think that applies to the time we are in today. As time is going by, the relevance of good cinema is becoming more and more evident; people want to watch good stories and good content. And that’s why filmmakers like Vishal Bhardwaj are people who are becoming more relevant over the years.”

He further added, “There are a lot of filmmakers who might have been very successful, who are not relevant anymore because you feel like you want to watch something new. That’s the beauty of great filmmakers, regardless of the change in time, regardless of the change in the audience; they have always been trying to make good content. Vishal Sir is one filmmaker who will remain relevant for a long time and hopefully ‘Rangoon’ will be a film which will be relevant. People will watch it and they will feel it is a good film because that’s what is we want to do.”

“Our attempt is to make a good film, not worrying about what is commercial and what is not, how many people will watch it, those are not things you can control so we don’t focus on them,” concluded Shahid.
