Makers of 'Dear Zindagi' find themselves in a legal soup as producers of television series 'Being Erica' have filed a case of copyright infringement against them
Since the release of ‘Dear Zindagi’, the film has embroiled in a controversy over it being similar to television series ‘Being Erica’. The filmmakers though denied the news, but an insider revealed that the producers of the series have now filed a case against Karan Johar's Dharma Productions for copyright infringement.

Director Gauri Shinde has denied any such development, whereas a source recently revealed to a leading daily, "The producers of the series, Temple Street Productions have sent a legal notice to Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions for copyright infringement."

The source further added, "Karan and the Dharma CEO, Apoorva Mehta were not aware that 'Dear Zindagi' was inspired in such detail from the Canadian show. Meanwhile, Gauri maintains her script is original, but the similarities are too glaring to go unnoticed. Gauri Khan, who is also one of the producers, and the makers are now trying to figure how to sort it out amicably. This is the first time that Dharma, which has a clean reputation, has faced a plagiarism charge."

When the popular daily questioned Dharma CEO Apoorva Mehta about the same, he rubbished the rumours saying, "It’s not true... We haven’t received anything at all."
