Madhur Bhandarkar: It's sad to see fraternity support people as per their convenience

Director Madhur Bhandarkar's latest project, 'Indu Sarkar' is finally set to get a release after being mired in controversy. Set in the Emergency era, the film faced a lot of opposition from various political parties due to its subject. In fact, things got so unruly that not only did various political parties threaten to not let the film release in their respective states but the promotional events for the film had to be cancelled in Nagpur and Pune.

However, the trouble did not end here. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) demanded 14 cuts in this political drama. Following this, the director then approached the revising committee, who cleared the film with U/A certificate, two cuts and one disclaimer.

While the film is all set to release on 28th July, Madhur Bhandarkar expressed his disappointment that the film fraternity did not express solidarity with his forthcoming movie. The filmmaker said, "It feels really sad that I as a filmmaker always stood with the film fraternity -- whether it was regarding 'Udta Punjab' or 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' or any other film... But they must have had their own problems. That's why you get angry when you see such selective activism."

Talking at the press conference the director further added, "Today what has happened to me, might happen with somebody else tomorrow. So, if you will support people as per your convenience, that won't work. Really this has saddened me as I wanted the film fraternity to come on a stage or tweet about this film, but that didn't happen."

Helmed by Madhur Bhandarkar, 'Indu Sarkar' is all set to release on July 28.
