Directed by ad-filmmaker Shrikumar Menon, the two-part magnum opus is all set to go on floors next year and release in 2020.
Since the announcement was made that Mohanlal is all set to star in the big screen adaptation of Mahabharat, the project has constantly been in news. The film will be made on a whopping budget of Rs 1000 crore and is an adaptation of MT Vasudevan’s book Randamoozham.

While the previous discussions regarding the project were about the magnitude of the project and the star cast, this time the film just might be facing trouble. Apparently, the members of 'Kerala Hindu Aikya Vedi' are opposing the release of the film unless the title is changed.

President KP Sasikala of the association at a public function said, "If the film is based on the novel Randamoozham, the name of the film should also be Randamoozham. If it is named Mahabharatham, then the story of the film should be the same as that of Mahabharatham written by Veda Vyasa."

Sasikala further added, "If the novel Randamoozham is made into a film with the name Mahabharatham, we will not allow it to be released in theatres. Randamoozham is a novel which has distorted Mahabharatham. The film also should be released in that name."

In a statement released, Sasikala added, "Although we are happy that a big budget film is coming from Kerala named Mahabharatham, we strongly feel a film which is close to the story of real Mahabharatham written by Vyasan should only carry its name. No other movie can be named Mahabharatham. If the movie is based on Randamoozham, let the name of the film also be named same. Veda Vyasan also has his rights."

Justifying herself, Sasikala cited the example of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code and said that The Da Vinci Code is another version of the Bible. However, the makers of the film did not use the title 'Bible'.
