On Friday the Thane crime branch arrested Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s lawyer in connection with a Call Data Records (CDR) racket that was unearthed in January. Rizwan Siddiqui had allegedly obtained the CDR of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's wife Anjali Siddiqui from private detectives. He will be produced before the Thane court today. On Friday, a police team carried out a search of advocate Siddique’s premises in Versova.

Reportedly the police also said the advocate is suspected of having sourced the call data records of Nawazuddin’s wife to sort out some matrimonial issue. A police official said, “We had issued summons to Nawazuddin, his wife and advocate nearly a week ago, but they have failed to record their statement.”

A senior police officer said custody of the advocate was vital for further interrogation in the case. Apparently, the sources also said that they were looking for the CDR which the advocate had sourced. A senior police officer said, “A search is underway for a hard copy of the CDR. We have also seized laptops as well as mobile phones along with CCTV footage from the advocate’s office.”

Another police officer said, “We have information that the advocate had even paid Rs 50,000 to the private detective to source the CDR.”

Now the lawyer has said in a statement, "No Section 41 A notice has been served on me. Clients confidential data is also seized by police without any notice and without any court order. Despite my statement being recorded on the 23rd of February 2018 in the presence of my clients brother Mr. Shamasuddin Siddiqui they did not corroborate the said statement with my client nor did they bother to follow up with my said client for reasons best known to the police."

He further said, "I had already served a letter to the police to let me take the permission of the bar council before submiting evidence however despite co-operation and despite showing evidences the officer incharge did not pay any heed to that and has arrested me without following the due process of law for reasons best known to him."
