Popular singer Daler Mehndi convicted in a human trafficking case

On Friday, a court in Patiala convicted popular Bollywood singer Daler Mehndi in a human trafficking case and sentenced him to two years in jail. The singer had been taken into custody soon after the conviction but was later released on bail. The complainant is one Bakshish Singh of Balbehra village. Post his complaint, a case had been registered against Daler, his late brother Shamsher and a few of their associates. The complainant had alleged that Daler and Shamsher had duped him by taking lakhs of rupees from him on the pretext of sending him abroad as a member of the troupe of Daler Mehndi.

After the case was registered in 2003, several other people have come forward with complaints against the brothers. Bakshi also alleged that following the failure of their agreement the brothers had not returned the money to him. Earlier, two discharge petitions had been filed by the police in favour of the singer. After both the petitions were rejected by the court, the police were then ordered to issue a fresh challan against the singer. A leading agency has also confirmed Daler's conviction and has taken to its Twitter account to post about the same. Check out the tweets below:
