Here is the real reason why Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar starrer 'Manmarziyan' was almost to shelve, until Aanand L. Rai roped in Anurag Kashyap to direct the film
Bhumi Pednekar and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer 'Manmarziyan' has continually faced issues - first, director Sameer Sharma was replaced by 'Nil Battey Sannata' famed Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, and then the film got indefinitely delayed as the lead pair and Ashwiny got busy with their various work commitments. Reports also suggested that producer Aanand L. Rai was planning to shelve the film.

However, the real reason behind the delay was not because the 'Manmarziyan' team had other work commitments. A source close to a leading daily revealed, "Manmarziyan’s script was very similar to Sairat’s. It was about a boy and girl from different castes falling in love, then eloping due to family problems. Which is why Anurag Kashyap has been brought in to completely change the script and make it more intense and dark and change the plot a bit."

'Sairat' is a much acclaimed Marathi film of which the rights are apparently bought by Karan Johar's Dharma Production to remake the film in Hindi. And thus Aanand brought in Anurag to give a whole new dimension to the script and filming of 'Manmarziyan'.
