Karan Johar has had quite an eventful year and it started off with the director and filmmaker announcing that he was all set to co-produce a film with Salman Khan which will star Akshay Kumar. The movie would be based on the Battle of Saragarhi and titled 'Kesari'. It would be helmed by Anurag Singh. However, looks like plans have changed.

Karan had tweeted, "Supremely excited to coproduce with @BeingSalmanKhan #SKF on a film starring @akshaykumar directed by Anurag Singh...releasing 2018!" Salman too had taken to the social media portal to tweet, "Joining hands on a project where @akshaykumar is the hero and will be co produced by @karanjohar and #SKF." However, earlier this year, reports suggested that Salman had backed out of co-producing the film and instead, Akshay had become co-producer with Karan. Karan's home production had tweeted, saying, "Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar proudly present 'Kesari' based on one of the bravest battles fought in India 'The Battle of Saragarhi' Directed by Anurag Singh and starring Akshay Kumar. Releasing Holi 2019."

In an interview with a leading daily, Salman finally opened up about why he backed out of the project. On being questioned about the same, he said, "Karan has his home production and I have mine. He had come to me long back with the project, but he did all the work from casting to everything. I thought just adding my name was not right."

In the meanwhile, 'Kesari' is now slated to release during the Holi of 2019.
