What happened on the streets of Bengaluru on New Year’s eve shook the nation. While the world was celebrating the arrival of a new year, helpless women were getting openly molested by men in the presence of 1500 policemen and bystanders. Things got even more ugly when politicians blamed the girls for being responsible for the incident. They further went on to add that partying at night means ‘copying the western culture’, and it is because of that such incidents happen.

Many Bollywood celebrities like Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Anushka Sharma, and Malaika Arora Khan have opened up and strongly condemned this incident and the mentality of the politicians who have blamed the women for such horrific incidents.

Recently, Shah Rukh Khan was asked about this incident and what it says about the safety of women in our country. To this the superstar said, “The feeling is exactly the same as other celebrities have said. I think it’s completely wrong. We all, mothers and fathers, have to treat our sons in a way that they learn to respect women from an early age.”

“I think women are close to my heart, my daughter is close to my heart, mother is close to my heart, all girls are close to my heart. I think it is high time we realise that and make sure they are the most respected people on the planet. If they were not there, we wouldn’t be here. Working women, housewives, every woman who are there in the world should be respected.” added Shah Rukh.

It does make a difference when influential people like Shah Rukh Khan open up and condemn such incidents. On the work front, Shah Rukh is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Raees’ which will hit the theatres on 25th January.
