Most older women find it difficult to get aroused in bed after a certain age. They struggle with what is commonly known as female sexual dysfunction. This can really affect their sex drives and can also affect the ability to have an orgasm. But now, scientists at the University of Michigan have come up with a potential solution to this problem. They carried out a test on nine women wherein the participants were given an electric zap near the tibial nerve on one of their ankles or in their genital area. Since the method proved successful on mice, they moved ahead and experimented on people.

Dr Tim Bruns who led the experiment, said, "Across a variety of clinical studies, if you get a 50 percent improvement in symptoms, you can consider that a successful response. We had four participants meet or exceed that threshold." Dr Priyanka Gupta said, "This study presents an alternative method for treating FSD that is non-pharmacologic and non-invasive. Through studies like this, we can further understand female sexual arousal and offer treatments for a disorder that has very few options." Stay tuned for more updates.
