Are the benefits of AI in healthcare miscalculated?

If current news and trend are any proof, artificial intelligence has made its presence felt in many sectors and much against the perceptions of traditionalists, the hospital and medical welfare industry is one of them. In fact, a study published in the American Cancer Society says that AI can now deliver 99% accurate reviews and translations of mammograms, in a speed that is 30 times faster when compared to the traditional methods. The study also says that AI can be held responsible for reducing biopsies.
While the world is plagued with health issues, and five billion of them having no access to surgery or even basic medical care, the need for AI in the medical industry is glaring. Artificial intelligence has already been beneficial in various ways to sift through colossal amounts of data to highlight treatment mistakes and workflow inefficiencies, which has helped in avoiding unnecessary hospitalization. Apart from that AI doctors are now able to find if a patient is distressed based on the muscle movement on their face. In fact, some may say that an AI doctor is capable of beating a human doctor.

According to McAfee Labs, healthcare was 2017’s most targeted sector in terms of breach instances. Sadly a majority of applications are designed without keeping security in mind.
