Most of us are quite familiar with this feeling, aren't we? A recent study has now proved that being hangry is an actual thing. It's the emotion which comes out when hunger boils over and it is definitely something that can affect work and relationships. It's also a known fact that when our blood sugar levels drop when we’re hungry, we’re left feeling weak, irritable, nauseous, and at loss of concentration.

The study's lead researcher also believed that a person’s emotional awareness contributes to their risk of tipping over from hungry to hangry. The study also showed that participants who were shown a negative image when they were hungry, reacted in a much more negative way than participants who weren't hungry. They were also asked to rate how hungry they were.

“The idea here is that the negative images provided a context for people to interpret their hunger feelings as meaning the pictographs were unpleasant. So there seems to be something special about unpleasant situations that makes people draw on their hunger feelings more than, say, in pleasant or neutral situations,” she added.

“Our bodies play a powerful role in shaping our moment-to-moment experiences, perceptions and behaviours – whether we are hungry versus full, tired versus rested or sick versus healthy,” she continued. “They matter not just for our long term mental health, but also for the day-to-day quality of our psychological experience, social relationships and work performance,” she concluded. Stay tuned for more updates.
